Client Spotlight: CrossFit Athlete Abigail Ellis

Stretch Fitness Client Spotlight: Abigail Ellis, CrossFit Athlete

I cannot express how much Dawn has changed my life. When I first started, Dawn informed me I was not eating enough, which I knew because I felt hungry and tired, a lot. After following the macros she had given me (still not doing it 100% perfect) I had lost 7.5 inches overall in just three months. I couldn’t believe it with how much MORE I was eating. What amazes me more than anything about this program is that it isn’t a “diet” it’s not a “30-day challenge” it is something I can do the rest of my life. Dawn helped me with my body, yes, but she helped me even more with the relationship I had mentally with food. I have never been consistent with my eating, but with Dawn’s help, I forget I am on a plan sometimes because it has just become part of my life eating the way I do. Dawn treats me like family, and genuinely cares about her clients. I will never be the same after her.” - Abigail

When I first started working with Abigail as in in-person nutrition client back August, she was just starting out her CrossFit journey, in fact, she had a week left of her intro classes. Abigail was already lean, but wanted to get stronger for her new sport. My focus for Abigail was to provide her with the tools needed to create a healthy and sustainable relationship with food, figuring out what was causing her digestive distress, to prepare her body for the intense workouts to come and for some awesome muscle building.

Within a month Abigail had more than surpassed all my expectations. She was doing great at CrossFit and being able to recover from her workouts, even her 2-a-day workouts without a problem. Her stomach issues were pretty much gone and she was already seeing some amazing physical improvements. Most importantly, she was finally finding freedom from the food anxieties she once had and realized that FOOD IS FUEL and to be the best athlete you can be, you need to fuel your body! Take care of your body and it will take care of you!

From the moment she stepped foot in my gym, I felt an immediate connection to Abigail. Like me, she lost a parent at an early age. Also like myself, Abigail uses that pain and fear to become the best version of herself that she can be and to be a positive role model and help others to understand the importance of nutrition and exercise. She now understands just how important it is to take care of your body and mind, and to live life to the fullest because tomorrow is not guaranteed.

When I first start coaching a client, I will face a little pushback, especially when I tell them to eat MORE, with Abigail, she trusted me and the process right from the start. Never once did she give any pushback, she just did as instructed, and do you know what happened? Every week she was getting a new PR, she lost 7.5” and she had a whole new outlook on life and with food and a confidence she had never felt before! Abigail is an athlete and has learned to treat her body as one and I cannot wait to see her compete at her first CrossFit competition in less than a month!

Words cannot describe how proud I am of Abigail and how blessed I am that she chose me to be the one to join this journey and I’m so excited to see what the future holds for her!
